Time to update the DPRT Lake-Cook bridge?

The Lake County and Cook County forest districts together think it’s time to revamp the Des Plaines River Trail bridge over Lake-Cook Road. Hey, we're just happy there's been a bridge, but both districts conducted inspections and have decided to pursue a state grant to fund “structural rehabilitation.” And they're asking for riders' feedback — really, support for the grant — via a survey through Sept. 18 that also asks about nearby intersections. These two paths don't have to end

Why do paths along West Bartlett Road in Bartlett and Middle Street in South Elgin end so oddly before they can meet at Route 25? Bartlett is taking the lead on fixing that; a congressman just helped with $1.5 million in funding for the intersection. That's great news, though Bartlett riders still wonder if a link could ever be made around railroad tracks to the east. Also in news.

Klein Road path plans put it on the west side

The first designs of an off-road path by Klein Road in west DuPage County were revealed this week, and they have the path on … the west side, not the forest preserve side. The Wayne Township Road District drew a good crowd at an open house about the paved connector trail; many Klein residents were not happy with the particulars. But planners have their reasons. Some bridge infrastructure is taking shape for the West Branch DuPage River Trail on both sides of Roosevelt Road and the river. A forest commissioner shared pictures. Also, there's now a second detour on the Fox River Trail in Geneva. Those are in the construction round-up.​

I also hear the Casey Trail near Libertyville is at least partially repaved, with some remaining gravel. That's in the DPRT Riders' purview.

And I know the village of Schaumburg is working with Hoffman Estates on a grant to create a 10-foot-wide path, 1.75 miles long, from roughly Hoffman Estates High School past the Golf-Higgins intersection. About the project.
